In the fall of 1973, Police Chiefs representing 16 North Carolina
colleges and universities met to form an organization to promote the
professionalism of campus policing and to address policing concerns
common to each campus community. That organization is the North
Carolina Association of Campus Law Enforcement Administrators.
The organization is closely related to the International Association
of Campus Law Enforcement Administrators, and current membership
includes over 30 colleges and universities across North Carolina.
Combined, the NCACLEA campus police departments serve a community of
more than a quarter million students, faculty, and staff, with over
500 sworn police officers, nearly 70 sworn auxiliary officers, 269
security guards, and over 300 support personnel. The
organization represents a specialty field of policing directed to
meeting the law enforcement, security, and public safety needs of the
diverse and ever changing campus community.
