2015 NCACLEA Winter Conference

The Board discussed final preparations for the upcoming NCACLEA Winter Training Conference, which will be held on January 30, 2015 at Wake Technical Community College’s Public Safety Campus on Chapanoke Road in Raleigh.  Training slated for the Winter Conference includes sessions on Clery Compliance Update, High Profile Missing Person Case Management, and Body-Worn Video Cameras.  A continental breakfast, buffet lunch and vendor hall access will be included in the $30.00 registration fee. A special hotel rate of $95.00 plus tax per night has been negotiated at the Hampton Inn (110 Drexmere Street, Garner, NC) which is located approximately two blocks from the conference venue.  Conference attendees should ask for the Wake Technical Community College rate.

2015 NCACLEA Summer Conference:

Captain Chris Padgett from UNC-Wilmington is again coordinating the host agency functions for the 2015 NCACLEA Summer Training Conference.    This one and one-half day conference is scheduled for Thursday and Friday, July 9 and 10.  The registration fee for the conference will be finalized and announced in Spring, 2015.

Many attendees will likely choose to arrive in Wilmington on Wednesday, July 8.  The primary conference hotel will be the Hampton Inn University, located a short distance from the UNC-Wilmington campus. A conference rate of $104.00 per night has been negotiated and a conference hospitality room will be open on the evenings of July 8 and 9.

This year, the conference will be held in the Burney Center – a well-furnished meeting facility on the UNC-Wilmington campus.  NCACLEA will have access to two spacious rooms and a lobby.  The Burney Center also has dedicated visitor parking available adjacent to the facility.

Potential training topics for the 2015 Summer Conference include:  Bystander Intervention to Deter Sexual Violence (possibly the Green Dot program), Implicit Bias Awareness, Radicaliza-tion / Recruitment of Students by Terrorist Groups, FBI Campus Liaison Program, and Social -Media Monitoring / Policy Development / Response to and Investigation of Incidents.  A suggestion was also made to possibly deliver a training session that would be approved by CJ Education and Training Standards as a “Chief’s Choice” topic to help satisfy annual mandatory in-service requirements for sworn law enforcement officers.

NCACLEA members who have additional suggestions for 2015 Summer Conference training sessions are encouraged to contact Jim Phillips as soon as possible by phone:  910-630-7625 or via e-mail at japhillips@methodist.edu.

2016 NCACLEA Elections                                                                                                         John Reaves reminded the Board that a slate of candidates for NCACLEA’s Board of Director positions must be formulated in 2015, in order for candidates to stand for election in early 2016.
